A Book Giveaway!

Giveaway #3

So, awhile back I mentioned that I haven't had much time to read paper-and-ink books lately.  Sad, but true.  I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks at work instead.  Well, I did read one book with a binding lately--a slim, but important volume that I would like to share with you.

Here it is:

I met and worked with author M. J. Weissenberger in South America.  She was a new missionary who would be teaching English to our children.  I can't even express how blessed I am for what she has meant to them.

So, when she announced the publication of her book, Two Heavy Words: Reflections of a First-Year Missionary, I was quick to buy it right away, snatch it from its envelope and devour it.  I paid for it, but reading it was a gift.

One of the things I love about Mrs. Weissenberger is her honesty and frankness.  Another is her deep passion to keep pushing on and pressing forward in her faith and walk with God.  She isn't content with the status quo.  She doesn't want to be stuck in a comfortable, but ultimately suffocating, rut.  The title, Two Heavy Words, comes from her promise to God: "I'll go."  Those two words rearranged her life and changed its trajectory.  Her willingness to share some of the journey and lessons with all of us is something for which to be grateful.

I could see this book being extremely useful to missionaries who have been on the foreign field for a few months--long enough for the novelty and "honeymoon phase" to wear off.  When the rubber meets the road, as the cliché goes, and the excitement changes to daily challenges, it could be a big help.

I could also see this book being useful to missionaries who have been on the field for years and are still hungry to know God better and love him more.  For those who aren't content with just service, but want a constantly-deepening relationship with their creator.  It would be a good book for refocusing and evaluating one's life and heart.

Sooooo. . . who wants to win it?

Leave a comment with your name and I will draw a winner at random.  If you want to, please use your comment to briefly talk about some "heavy words" with which you wrestled in your own life!  Giveaway ends next Saturday (July 26th).  This contest is open to anyone in the contiguous United States and to anyone who can pick up their mail from a certain office I know in Santa Cruz, Bolivia--since we have a package headed there soon anyway! :)

And by the way, I intend to send a new copy to whoever wins---'cuz you can't have mine. ;)

You can pick up this book several different places, but if you don't win it, I recommend getting the paperback directly from the publisher.  www.wipfandstock.com/store/Two_Heavy_Words_Reflections_of_a_FirstYear_Missionary My copy arrived quickly and in great shape.  Plus, it's only $7.20 on their site today!  Hooray! :)
