Music Giveaway!
I have an exciting giveaway for you this month. . . with choices! :)
If you are the winner, you can choose one of three CDs! All are musical groups that pleasantly surprised me and my family members. They are from very distinct genres, so hopefully you will find one that is just right for you.
Ready to see who they are? I'll give you a hint. . . they are all trios!
First up is the Hanneke Cassel Trio. We were given tickets to see her trio live and we were so blown away. Amazing musical talent.
She plays fiddle, what the Scots would call "pure dead brilliant" fiddle. And beyond her skill, artistry, original compositions, and on-stage charisma, I felt within moments that she was worshiping God with each note. Does that sound funny? Because I had no knowledge of who she was. But when I read the liner notes from her CD "Dot the Dragon's Eyes," it made sense. She really goes beyond just playing to pouring her heart out when she plays. I don't even know how to describe it.
Anyway, the CD for the giveaway is "Dot The Dragon's Eyes." We own this CD and it's amazing. Did I say that already? ;) If you are looking up other songs of hers via I-Tunes, you might try the tune "Scandalous" as well.
You can hear some of her talent at her website. When you get there (the link follows), go to the blue and white list on the bottom right of her screen.

The second trio I'm featuring is "Everfound." These brothers immigrated from Russia as children, and have a remarkable family past. In the days of the U.S.S.R., their parents heard about Jesus via radio broadcasts coming into the Soviet Union from somewhere just across the border. The government would try to jam the frequencies, but the good news would make its way through. The brothers' great-uncle spent 20 years in prison for owning a Bible. Their dad's youth group was discovered hiding in the woods for Bible studies each week, so they were harassed and chased by police dogs.
Having these stories as a part of their heritage--and just one generation ago--has caused them to be very outspoken about the remarkable gift of faith in Christ. They want to fully appreciate their opportunity to speak of him freely. It is so beautiful that their band's music can now be heard across the globe on radio stations like the one that played years ago to their family members.
They write their own music (75 songs as preparation for their first major debut album, which they trimmed to 12) and play their own instruments. Their songs are very personal and vulnerable, connecting deeply with fans. "Never Beyond Repair" is one of my favorites. Take a listen.
Finally, we come to our band #3, "33 Miles." You may have heard of these guys before. Their (self-titled) debut album hit No. 16 on Billboard's chart of Top Christian Albums in 2007. Their next album, "One Life," hit No. 4 on that chart the next year. "There is a God" is a fantastic song that was played for the astronauts on the Space Shuttle as wake-up call music.
Have you heard these guys? They have a country sound, kind of like Lonestar, Rascal Flatts or Keith Urban, perhaps. Pianist Colin Stoddard left the group in 2009 and Chris Lockwood left last year. So, the band is no longer a trio. But their debut album, which is on my list as a giveaway option for you, is still brilliant.
Check this out. . . this song is actually from their second album, not the one I am offering, but it will give you a little taste of their sound.
So, here's how we're going to play. . . leave me a comment stating your name and which CD you would like to win if you are chosen. If you want to hear more samples, you can look for at least the last two on www.christianbook.com as well.
