Focus Fridays--#21 After a challenging week, here is a line-up of good news!

In the midst of the Chilean volcano eruptions, the earthquake in Nepal and the riots in Baltimore, there is a LOT OF GOOD NEWS this week, too!

Here are a few examples. . . .

* More than 450 women and children have been RESCUED from Boko Haram in Nigeria (please pray for their emotionally and psychological recovery, and the hundreds still being held).
* A teen was pulled from the rubble nearly a week after the Nepal earthquake!
* Thousands of people stepped up in Baltimore to clean the city, feed police and military personnel and also feed the many needy children who couldn't get access to their school lunches.
* A report shows automobile crash fatalities with drivers 16-19 years old are less than half what they used to be in America.
* After Tim Ward lost his wife and home in a landslide, an anonymous donor heard his story and paid off the mortgage--of $360,000.
* After Jean Sharon Abbott spent 33 years unable to control her limbs, a correct diagnosis allows her to walk--and dance!--with her family. The best news about this? It's the way she has chosen to live her life--before and after this amazing change--with joy, purpose, and a belief God knows what he is doing.

And on and on. . . there are good things going on in the world!

Here is something that really made me smile today. Check out this man's smile--and energy! At 89!

It’s an unusual recipe because it doesn’t require any ingredients from the frig like milk, butter or eggs. It’s made with water and ingredients from the pantry, including oil, flour and sugar. It’s a good recipe to have during times like a pandemic or a blackout, when you can’t always get everything you want at the grocery store or keep everything you want in the refrigerator. She lived at the same time as God’s prophet Elijah, and there was a drought where they were. One of my children and I were having a cabin fever kind of day recently, missing the freedom to have big adventures and attend big events. You know what I mean? We had been sheltered-in-place about seven weeks and were missing those moments when someone says, "So, what'd you do this weekend?" . . . and you have something big to say. In those conversations, we tend to skip over the details like we brushed our teeth or took out the trash. Instead, we would mention the one or two things that seemed like a big deal. A birthday party, or dinner at somewhere fancy. During the shelter-in-place, we don't get to go to the movies or the mall. No overnight road trips or even trips to the hair salon. It can seem a little depressing. Yet, sometimes, moments of great joy and happiness aren't found in things we think are a big deal; they're found in the little details of our lives.
