Focus Fridays #23--Spreading some kindness

So, on Focus Fridays, I try to show some of the good stuff that is going on in the world. There really is a lot of it, although it sometimes gets buried beneath the pile of violence and trauma we read and watch in headlines.

Sometimes, the good news is HUGE and powerful. But sometimes, it is quieter and powerful. For instance, the story of a family who fends off a bully with love, not hate (See link at end of post).
 
Sometimes, it is about celebrating achievements with people we love. This is graduation weekend for colleges in our area. Several coworkers are finishing up courses, but one woman in particular worked really hard this year to conquer a class that was very challenging for her.

Friday, four of her friends and coworkers surprised her with cake, flowers and a sign to commemorate her accomplishment. Moments like that are key factors in living well. Celebrating together. Celebrating each other's successes. God is good, and life is beautiful. Make some Focus Friday moments of your own. Spread some kindness!

It’s an unusual recipe because it doesn’t require any ingredients from the frig like milk, butter or eggs. It’s made with water and ingredients from the pantry, including oil, flour and sugar. One of my children and I were having a cabin fever kind of day recently, missing the freedom to have big adventures and attend big events. You know what I mean? We had been sheltered-in-place about seven weeks and were missing those moments when someone says, "So, what'd you do this weekend?" . . . and you have something big to say. In those conversations, we tend to skip over the details like we brushed our teeth or took out the trash. Instead, we would mention the one or two things that seemed like a big deal. A birthday party, or dinner at somewhere fancy. During the shelter-in-place, we don't get to go to the movies or the mall. No overnight road trips or even trips to the hair salon. It can seem a little depressing. Yet, sometimes, moments of great joy and happiness aren't found in things we think are a big deal; they're found in the little details of our lives.
